Tigers star already setting sights on coaching

AT the age of just 27, Tom Huddlestone is entering what should be his peak years as a footballer.

That, though, has not stopped the Hull City midfielder from planning for the future and a possible tilt at management.

“I am hoping I have got a few years left playing,” said Huddlestone. “But I have started doing my coaching badges. I did my (UEFA) B licence last summer.

“It was something I meant to do a couple of years ago when I was still at Spurs. Me and Michael Dawson were going to get it started but we had horrific weather one winter so it was impossible to start. I had an injury lay-off, too.

“But last summer I went along with Liam (Rosenior) and we started. While you still have fresh ideas and ways of playing, I think it’s a good idea to get them done.

“It (coaching/managing) is something I would like to do in the future and I didn’t have much planned in the summer, so it was ideal to get it started.”

Huddlestone passed with flying colours in the summer and plans to sit his A-Licence next year. He added: “Hopefully, I have still got a few years left playing but it is better to have it. It’s easier to get the badges while you’re still playing, rather than be out of the game for four or five years and, suddenly, decide you want to get them because a few of your ideas might have been lost.

“It was a bit nerve-wracking, though. On day two, we had an assessment straight away and I’d never done any form of coaching in my life.

“I was first up, followed by Liam with 19 ex and current players, so it was a bit nerve-wracking in that respect. But it was still an enjoyable two weeks.

“It was the second part of the B Licence and then you have to submit 20 hours of coaching throughout the year. Then we did the first part of the A licence, which we go finish next summer.

“I’ve been told to shout up any time I want to use the Under-21s or the younger age groups to get my hours.”

Tom Ince, meanwhile, has completed his loan switch to Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old, a summer signing from Blackpool, has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the KC with his last Premier League outing being in August.

Ince’s debut is likely to come tomorrow against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.
