Hunt aware interest can wane as well as grow

HIGHLY-RATED Huddersfield Town full-back Jack Hunt admits he is flattered by speculation linking him with several Premier League clubs, but insists his focus remains firmly with the Terriers.

The buccaneering right-back, 22, has made a seamless step up from League One football to the demanding arena of the Championship, with his reputation further enhanced in the process.

Top-flight trio Wigan Athletic, Swansea City and Reading along with Championship leaders Cardiff City – are understood to be monitoring the progress of the Rothwell-born player, with six Premier League clubs represented at Town’s draw with Birmingham City last weekend.

That was the 100th game in Town colours for Hunt, contracted with the club until 2014 with the option of another year.

On the rumours, Hunt, named in the PFA League One team of the year last term, said: “It is nice to hear those things. It shows you are doing a good job and people are watching you.

“But it can quickly be taken away from you if you do not perform and the interest goes away.

“But as far as I am concerned, I am a Huddersfield Town player trying to play well on the pitch and get three points for the club.”

He added: “I have had quite a lot of stick (for the paper talk) in the past week. But as this week, Lee Novak was also linked with Bradford City and I think it is the biggest load of rubbish I have heard in my life – we have had a bit of banter about that as well.”

Town manager Simon Grayson has called the reports linking Hunt with a possible move away from the John Smith’s Stadium as nothing more than transfer window speculation, with no substance to them.

Grayson, who did not comment on reports linking Town with Bradford City striker Nahki Wells, said: “When you are in a transfer window, there is going to be speculation left, right and centre for our good players and every other good player in the country.

“You hear managers on a daily basis say it would be wrong to comment on speculation and we are no different. If people want to put bids in for players, they would have to meet our valuation. But we are not a selling club anyway, so we are not encouraging anything.

“It is speculation regarding Jack, Anthony Gerrard or any player here. We just get on with our business and comment on ins and outs in private.”

Grayson confirmed that he will speak with Wolves counterpart Dean Saunders about Adam Hammill – back at Molineux following his loan spell at Town –next week although he is refusing to say whether the club will make a renewed move for him.
