Charlton v Barnsley FC: Reds chief Michael Duff delivers positive transfer window message

MICHAEL DUFF has a welcome message to those Barnsley supporters who make the trip to SE7 to watch their team on Saturday.

They will no doubt be hoping for their first glimpse of recent signing Max Watters, who could well be involved from the bench.

As for the first-team regulars who start from the off at the Valley, the Reds chief is confident they will remain Barnsley players by the close of play on January 31.

Duff said: "We're pretty confident we are not going to lose anyone who we don't want to lose.

"Players might want to leave because of more time, but that's a different thing entirely.

"We are hopeful we only add to what we have got. I don't think we are going to lose any of our starting 11, which is what we want."

Duff renews acquaintances with someone he knows well from his time living in the north west in recently-appointed Addicks boss Dean Holden.

Charlton's home is also a place which has fond memories for the Oakwell boss, with the venue being where he played his last ever game as a professional for Burnley on the last day of the Claret’s title-winning season of 2015-2016.

In the here and now, Duff is focusing on avoiding a third successive defeat for the first time under his watch, not that he was throwing tea cups around after last weekend's FA Cup exit at Derby.

He continued: "There's an honesty and humility in the group and they know that they did not hit their levels last week. We don't need to rant and rave and we have shown them pictures and where we let ourselves down.

"It's about eradicating individual errors and sticking to the process of why we have done well this season. It's about getting back 'on the horse.'”
