Hull City find the tables are turned

Tigers chief Grant McCann admitted: “We were not good. We struggled the whole game, though we probably had the three best chances in the game aside of their goal.

Shrewsbury secured a first win in 11 league games, defying the odds against the League One leaders to claim a deserved triumph thanks to Charlie Daniels’s neat goal after 27 minutes.

Daniels seized upon striker Daniel Udoh’s threaded pass into the penalty area before calmly dinking the ball over onrushing goalkeeper Matt Ingram.

McCann reflected: “In the first half, there was Greavesy’s (Jacob Greaves) header, George Honeyman had a really good chance to equalise and just before that Doc (Greg Docherty) had a good chance from a really good set-play we worked.

“We just didn’t test their keeper, which is really frustrating because we’ve been good at that in terms of the goals we’ve scored. We didn’t do it today and ultimately we paid the price.”

City had been just one of three sides in English football to have scored in each of their league games – Liverpool and Newport the other two.

The visitors were excellent value for their half-time lead and though the hosts marginally improved after the restart, Shrewsbury’s efficient high-pressing game left City frustrated.
