It’s also no surprise to see that many of the hotly-contested clashes are played out on a regular basis.
Take Rotherham United vs Barnsley, for example, who played each other just before the turn of the year, and who will face off again in late April.
The two sides first met back in 1932, playing out a 0-0 draw in the old Division Three North, and have gone on to play each other on 52 other occasions.
Elsewhere, the Tykes have wracked up 77 meetings with Sheffield United, the most recent of which came in April 2018 at Oakwell, with hosts pulling of an impressive 3-2 victory.
That of course brings us on to the Steel City derby, with United and neighbours Sheffield Wednesday squaring off 144 times down the years since they first met in 1891.
The rivalry could well be rekindled next season, provided the Owls beat the drop and the Blades don’t.
One feud that may have to wait a while longer before it comes to pass again is the one between Huddersfield Town and Bradford City.
Separated by two divisions, the two clubs haven’t met since they clashed in 2013.
But how do these derbies rank in terms of ferocity compared to some of the biggest rivalries in English football?
Paddy Power have ran the numbers, comparing win percentages from derby clashes between every Championship club and their most fierce foes to determine which clashes truly are the most competitive.
