Jordan Williams on his hopes for Barnsley FC and Huddersfield Town

BARNSLEY defender Jordan Williams has revealed his hopes for a Yorkshire survival double at the end of the 2019-20 Championship season - which would keep him and his girlfriend's Huddersfield Town supporting family all happy.

Huddersfield-born Williams, preparing for the Reds' vital Championship trip to fellow strugglers Luton Town on Tuesday evening, is a former Terriers player, having moved to Oakwell in August 2018.

Both Barnsley and Town remain in big relegation trouble, with the Reds being second-from-bottom with five games to go and Huddersfield - who also face a long journey south to Reading on Tuesday - currently fifth from bottom and just two points above the drop zone.

It promises to be a big occasion for both White Rose clubs in their quest to stave off the drop and Williams admits that his ideal scenario is for the Reds and his hometown club to both be celebrating late on July 22.

Meltham-raised Williams, said: “My girlfriend’s dad is a Town fan and her family are, so I am always getting a bit of stick from them that it is going to be us or them (going down).

“But it’s just a bit of banter. You take it on the chin and move on.

“It is always good to have a Yorkshire derby and hopefully it is the Championship (next season).

“But we just need to concentrate on ourselves and if Huddersfield go down, they go down and if we stay up, so be it.”

On Barnsley channelling their hurt after a wretched weekend showing at Stoke, where they plumbed the depths en route to a 4-0 loss, Williams, who came as an interval substitute when the Reds trailed 3-0, added: “Definitely. It was a horrible game.

“But that is in the past now and we have got to think towards Tuesday which is a massive game and the boys have got to show a reaction.

“We are all ready and confident that we will put in a performance at Luton.”
