Leeds United

Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Top-class save to deny Mahoney just before the break, which he could be proud of. Left exposed by his defence for the leveller, which he could do little about. 7

Matthew Pennington. Failed to clear his lines in the build-up to Barnsley’s equaliser. More convincing on the restart. 6

Pontus Jansson. Solid start, but failed to marshall Leeds’s youthful defence ahead of the break when the hosts were rocky. But steady in the second half. 7

Paudie O’Connor. Awful moment for the youngster when he diverted Fryers’ cross into his own net. 6

Ezgjan Alioski. Flashes of intent and was busy and got his goal, which was the reward for a spirited performance. 7.

Ronaldo Vieira. Crunching first-half tackle on Yiadom yielded a booking. Trademark strength, but poise on the ball not always great. Kept going. 6

Kalvin Phillips. Struggled along with his team-mates as Barnsley took charge ahead of the break. 6

Pablo Hernandez. Tried to make things happen and showed some touches of quality, but not too much came off. 6

Tom Pearce. Moment that he will forever remember with his maiden Whites goal. One for the album. 7

Samuel Saiz. Looked in the mood early on and displayed elements of danger, without being at his best. 6

Kemar Roofe. Isolated at spells and quiet in the first period, although given little to feed off. Much better in the second half and produced a strong performance. 7

Substitutes: Caleb Ekuban (Alioski 72). Hustle and bustle, but looks raw. 6.

Adam Forshaw (Saiz 84). Came on late on to add a calming influence.

Barnsley

Adam Davies. Little to do in the first half and Pearce’s strike was too accurate for him. No hope with second. 6

Andy Yiadom. Pass to Mills played his team-mate into trouble and Leeds nearly

made capital. Recovered well enough.

Liam Lindsay. Steady away, one key block to deny Hernandez in first half. 6

Matt Mills. Rusty early on and will not have been happy with hosts’ second. 5

Zeki Fryers. Little chance to get forward in first half-hour, but made most of his first major foray forward in getting an assist for leveller. 7

Connor Mahoney. A lovely run almost yielded a picture-book strike before the break. Moments of threat. 7

Brad Potts. Grew into the game after a slack pass in the build-up to Leeds’ opener. Tested Peacock-Farrell. 6

Gary Gardner. Handed the task to police the area in front of the defence and kept his discipline. 6

Adam Hammill. Quiet early on, but then started to show far more assertion and a dominant figure in Reds’ strong spell before break. Faded a bit on restart, but displayed spirit. 6

Tom Bradshaw. Selfless running and kept at it after promoted to the starting line-up. Not his day in an attacking sense.

Oli McBurnie. Isolated on the left early on, but came to the party later on. Moments of quality, despite his ungainly appearance. 6
