HEAD coach Garry Monk hailed the latest home-grown talent at Leeds United after debutante Tyler Denton struck a glorious winner in Tuesday night's 1-0 success in the second round EFL Cup clash at Luton Town.

Making his Whites debut at left-back, Denton curled home a 23rd-minute peach from the edge of the area to put United in Wednesday night’s third round draw.

The victory also made it back to back wins for Monk, who made 11 changes to the line up that started the 2-0 Championship win at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday in readiness for this weekend’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Monk said of Denton: “He’s been great through pre-season and he’s a typical example of what they do at Leeds. What a great goal. That’s a debut goal you’d never forget.”

Monk also said that he did not plan on making 11 changes, but insisted that those players who started in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday had not fully recovered from those exertions.

“I just didn’t sense that those players were right,” he said.

“It would have been wrong for me to play them.

“We were worthy winners on the night.”
