Axed Leeds boss Brian McDermott linked to Arsenal role

FORMER Leeds United manager Brian McDermott is to reportedly return to football as a scout at Premier League giants Arsenal.

The 53-year-old left United by mutual consent at the end of May and according to reports, he has agreeed a three-year deal with the Gunners.

The former Reading chief, who played for the Gunners for a spell in the eighties, will work under Arsenal’s chief scout Steve Rowley and is expected to play a senior role in the north London club’s recruitment department.

His new role is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Slough-born McDermott came through the youth ranks as an apprentice at Highbury and made his senior debut in 1979 against Bristol City and went on to spend five years at Highbury.
