Bristol City v Leeds: Rosler eyes new recruits as rivals chase £8m striker Gray

AS tonight’s opponents, Bristol City, look to pip Hull City to Andre Gray after launching an £8m bid for the Brentford striker, Uwe Rosler is in relaxed mood when it comes to further strengthening at Leeds United.

The Elland Road club head to the west country looking to claim a first win at the third attempt in the Championship. United have started in solid fashion with draws against Burnley and Reading, but the task facing the Yorkshire club this term is underlined by Steve Cotterill having the resources to make such a huge bid for Gray.

Rosler has been busy this summer, bringing in a host of new faces, but the Leeds chief admits that further additions may be needed.

“A club like Leeds United should always look to improve the squad,” said Rosler. “When you see now with Lewis Cook having a three-match ban and two players coming back from surgery, we are already thin in some areas.

“At the moment – and I hope this stays the same – we don’t have many injuries in other departments.

“We have to make sure we have enough quality and depth. But we don’t need to dive in just to drive on a safety policy here. That is what we want.

“We also have the loan window that we can tap into. At the moment, it is going fine but we are always on the look out to improve our squad.

“There are still two weeks until the transfer window closes. With the loan window as well, I am pretty relaxed about the situation.

“Yes we have some key players they can’t get injured but that is football. We have to see how the situation develops.”

Bristol City, fresh from winning the League One title, are expected to make a challenge this term despite a disappointing start that has brought back-to-back defeats against Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford.

Rosler added: “Some teams come up with promotion and a winning mentality. They normally do very well – Brentford, Charlton a couple of years ago, Bournemouth in their first season. They all finished around the top 10.

“With Bristol City – and especially when you see the Andre Gray bid in for £8m – you see what we are up against. They have very good attacking wing-backs. Now they are probably going to sign a very dangerous striker.”

Luke Murphy, who underwent knee surgery in the summer, could return to the starting line-up after again coming off the bench in Sunday’s goalless draw at Reading.
