Sheffield United slumped to the bottom of the Championship after a demoralising home defeat to Middlesbrough today.

And Doncaster Rovers are not safe yet after they lost at home to Cardiff City. Hill City kept their play-off hopes alive with victory at Watford, but Leeds United missed out in a five-goal thriller at Millwall.

Barnsley came out on top in a six-goal Oakwell show against Bristol City.

Brighton closed in on the League One title after beating a resurgent Sheffield Wednesday, while Huddersfield Town snatched a late equaliser against Peterborough.

In League Two, Bradford City slipped to defeat against Torquay and Rotherham united dropped two points in their play-off drive at Cheltenham.

York City kep on target for the play-offs with a 2-1 win over Newport.

Marvin Elliott (6) put the visitors in front, before an Andy Gray penalty levelled the scores. Danny Haynes (40) fired Barnsley in front before Jacob Butterfield (44) and McShane added further goals. Nicky Maynard grabbed a late consolation.

Chris Burke (15) scored for City against run of play before James Coppinger (78) equalised. Substitute Jason Koumas scored twice late on for City.

FT Millwall 3 Leeds United 2

Goals from James Henry and Liam Trotter saw Millwall control the first half. Luciano Becchio (51) replied for Leeds, before Steve Morison restored the two-goal cushion. Andy O’Brien netted in stppage time.

FT Sheffield United 1 Middlesbrough 2

Matthew Bates put Boro in front before Matthew Lowton equalised in the first half. Emnes gave Boro all three points late on.

FT Watford 1 Hull City 2

Corry Evans (3) opened scoring for Tigers. Robert Koren netted for the visitors before Taylor grabbed a late consolation for the hosts.

Chris Wood’s 44th minute penalty gave Brighton the edge in the first half, before Elliott Bennett (74) made it 2-0.
