Hunt: I’m not going back to Leeds

The Irishman was ineligible for Ipswich’s 4-1 win over parent club Leeds at Portman Road under the terms of his loan transfer, but will remain in East Anglia until early January 3.

The former Reading striker scored his first goal in 22 months in Town’s recent last-gasp victory over Charlton and admits that his recent experiences at Leeds have been torrid ones in one of the most difficult spells of his career.

Speaking in Ipswich’s match-day programme, Hunt said: “I’m hoping I can do enough here to stay here past the month.

“I don’t really think there is a future for me at Leeds and it’s time to move on. It will be great if I can do that at Ipswich.”

On his difficult personal time at Leeds, heightened by ongoing off-the-field uncertainty at the club in the past year, he added: “It’s tough for the players and tough for the fans.

“It’s been a revolving door with the managers lately. Sometimes, clubs go through these periods though and unfortunately for Leeds, it’s them at the moment. I wish them all the best.

“It is hard. There was the takeover talk and all that and different people were coming in every day and analysing this and that.

“You’re constantly under the microscope and that’s not ideal preparation for games.

“You are training and trying to get things right and what with the uncertainty, it can unsettle players and sometimes that shows in results and performances.

“You need to let the manager and the coaches do their jobs and then things will come right.”

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy says he will review Hunt’s future at the end of his loan spell.

He said: “He’s had his problems with injuries, but has been fit since February and he got us off to a great start by scoring the winner with virtually the last kick at Charlton.

“I’ve always liked the way Noel has gone about his business and if we can get him going again, we will have a really good player on our hands.”
