Leeds United 3 Crystal Palace 2: Becchio and McCormack on target for United

ROSS MCCORMACK took his season’s goal tally to six with a timely double as Leeds United returned to winning ways against Crystal Palace, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

The former Cardiff City striker netted the first and last goals of an entertaining contest to seal the points, his winnner coming five minutes from time.

Luciano Becchio also got his name on the scoresheet in his first appearance since April as Leeds overturned a 2-1 half-time deficit to claim all three points.

With his side looking flat, manager Simon Grayson brought on Luciano Becchio and Mikael Forssell just before the hour in an attempt to inject some life into United.

Ramon Nunez may not have liked being replaced, the Honduran international kicking a water bottle and then punching the dugout after leaving the field.

But the move paid off 19 minutes from time when Becchio headed Leeds level from a Ross McCormack free-kick.

Leeds being in the position to draw level owed much to the agility of Andy Lonergan, the goalkeeper having denied Jermaine Easter and Sean Scannell with fine saves.

And the value of Lonergan’s contribution was underlined five minutes from time when Forssell headed a Robert Snodgrass cross into the path of McCormack, who turned David Wright before finishing coolly.
