Leeds United denied as Mills stays put

LEEDS United look set to miss out on Leicester City centre-back Matt Mills.

Mills is reported to have fallen out with Foxes manager Nigel Pearson, but the Midlands club has so far rebuffed Leeds’ overtures for a loan signing, even though a deal looked to be on the cards last weekend.

It was reported that the former Reading captain had personally rejected the approach from new Leeds boss Neil Warnock, but Pearson is likely to have the final say and is understood to have said in his pre-match press conference today that Mills will be staying at Leicester for now.

The £5m defender was left out of Leicester’s squad for their game with Derby County last week, after which Leeds moved quickly to express interest.

Warnock is keen to make additions to his defence ahead of Saturday’s clash with Championship leaders Southampton.
