Leeds wait on Harvey to resume investment discussions

TALKS over a possible investment deal at Leeds United are expected to recommence once chief executive Shaun Harvey returns from this week’s Football League summer conference.

The Championship club have been in discussions with an unnamed group from the United States, who are understood to have toured both Elland Road and Thorp Arch eight days ago.

United, who have remained tight-lipped beyond the initial admission that talks had taken place, are actively seeking, at the very least, a cash injection to help facilitate Neil Warnock’s attempts to build a squad capable of winning promotion next season.

Confirmation of the club’s willingness to listen to interested parties has led to tentative enquiries from elsewhere but the Chicago-based bidders who were in Leeds last week are believed to be the only group at anywhere near an advanced stage.

With the Americans taking time to ponder their next move, Harvey, a League board member, was able to fly out to take part in the summer conference, which is seen as a key feature of the football calendar as chairmen and chief executives from all 72 member clubs come together to decide the future direction of the Championship plus Leagues One and Two.

Last year, for instance, agreement was reached on the financial fair play system that will come into force in 2012-13, while yesterday it was revealed that a new sponsor had been found for the League Cup.

Capital One, the credit card company, will take over sponsorship from brewers Carling from the start of next season after striking a four-year deal with the League.
