Lees could return for Leeds as Byram awaits call

TOM Lees could regain his place in United’s line-up tonight with Lee Peltier carrying a groin strain and Brian McDermott remaining coy on his plans for Sam Byram.

Lees is in line to start at right-back against Reading after replacing Peltier for the final half-hour of United’s win at Bolton on Saturday.

The England Under-21 international, who lost his position to Scott Wootton last month, helped to see out the closing stages of a 1-0 victory in Lancashire and will be ready to step in if Peltier fails to recover. McDermott has not ruled United’s former captain out of this evening’s game but Peltier is a serious doubt and is unlikely to play.

Byram, meanwhile, made further progress in his battle against a hip injury with an appearance for Leeds’ development squad on Monday and McDermott confirmed that the 20-year-old would be available. But the United boss said: “Sam hasn’t played this season so you need to watch this space. Tom came in on Saturday and did really well. He’s a good footballer and he can play right-back no problem.”

A change at right-back could be the only alteration to McDermott’s team following their strong display at Bolton on Saturday.
