Is no-one going to follow Jason Pearce to Leeds?

LEEDS United’s only summer recruit Jason Pearce says he is glued to the TV trying to discover who else - if anyone - will join him for the new season’s squad.

Pearce was supposed to be the advance guard of manager Neil Warnock’s beefed-up squad - but financial constraints at Leeds have meant no-one else has so far followed him through the door.

Pearce, 24, said: “I do have a look on Sky Sports to see if anything is happening. I was obviously the first one to come in and I would hope to see a few more before the start of pre-season.”

United will find out their opening-day opponents today when the new campaign’s npower Championship fixtures are released and Warnock has revealed he wants his side’s first-round League Cup tie hosting of Shrewsbury Town played the weekend before the league campaign kicks off.

He said: “I’m actually hoping we can play the game on the weekend before (the season starts). Usually in these games, you maybe give opportunities to a few players because they fall between your first league games, but we want to get through in the competition, so it’s an opportunity for us.

“You always want a cup draw at home. It’s our first game of the season and it’s at Elland Road, which is great.”
