O’Brien returns to Leeds United after illness

Andy O’Brien is to resume training with Leeds United next week, two months after he refused to play in a Championship match at Burnley.

The club brought disciplinary action against the Yorkshire-born defender at the time but have since discovered that he was suffering from depression.

He has sought specialist medical treatment for the illness at the Sporting Chance Clinic.

The club say he is now ready to recommence training and that they will facilitate any further treatment required.

A club statement read: “It is now apparent that there were a number of issues that he was dealing with at the that time which affected him in a way we could not imagine and he was not in a right state of mindto make such decisions.

“On this basis we believe he deserves a second chance and we will do everything we can to assist him.”
