Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch charged by FA after red card at Brentford

Jesse Marsch has been charged by the FA following his red card in Leeds United’s 5-2 defeat at Brentford on Saturday.

Marsch was unhappy that a second-half challenge on Crysencio Summerville did not result in a penalty, despite a lengthy VAR review in the first half which resulted in a spot-kick for the home side after Luis Sinisterra was ruled to have fouled Ivan Toney.

The American expressed his anger on the touchline and was sent to the stands by referee Robert Jones.

He has now been charged with an alleged breach of FA Rule E3, and that his language and/or behaviour was improper. He has until Friday to respond, an FA statement said on Tuesday afternoon.

After Saturday’s loss, Marsch expressed his frustration: “I’m clearly dissatisfied. I’ve got to figure out how to have discussions with the (Premier) League or with referees or something to help understand how some decisions get made.

“I was speaking with the fourth official, trying to be as respectful as I possibly could, even when a penalty was given that I probably didn’t think was a penalty. And then you don’t see it reciprocated, the respect.

“That’s what I would call it. That lack of VAR visit in the end to me is a lack of respect.”
