Liam Rosenior's thank you for Acun Ilicali's Hull City gesture which makes his job easier

Liam Rosenior says the first thing he did after hearing Hull City were providing free coach travel to supporters for the final nine away games of the season was thank vice-chairman Tan Kesler because it makes his job much easier.

Over Christmas Rosenior enjoyed his first back-to-back wins in charge of the Tigers. Both came away from home in front of supporters whose travel was paid for by chairman Acun Ilicali.

Now the Turkish television mogul has extended that for the rest of the campaign. The gesture does not start until February 11, so misses the short trip to Sheffield United, but takes in Stoke City, Norwich City, Bristol City, Coventry City, Reading, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough and Luton Town.

It is another sign of a club reunited since Ilicali bought out the Allam family a year ago this month.

"I found out on Thursday, just like everybody else, and Tan was in the office next door so I made sure I went straight in and said, 'Thank you so much,'" revealed Rosenior.

"I know how difficult it is for supporters up and down the country, not just at this club, to support their team – economically, the time it takes, the sacrifices you make – so for Acun to make such a great gesture to the fans of this great football club, I couldn't be more delighted.

"I hope everyone turns up in their numbers like they have been doing because it makes a huge difference. It did at Birmingham and Wigan.

"If they can keep supporting the team hopefully we can keep making them proud on the pitch.

"The fans make a difference to the flow of the game. It's no surprise we scored our winning goal in front of the away end at Birmingham.

"It really makes a difference to the energy levels of the players when you've got a positive crowd who believe in you, singing your name and chanting non-stop."

Rosenior, whose side host Fulham in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, says the unity has strengthened the club.

"To achieve success in anything you need togetherness and spirit, and the fans are a huge part of a football club," he said. "One of the things that made me want to come back even more was I could see the re-engagement that Acun, Tan and all the guys have worked so hard to create in a short space of time.

"My job is to make the fans proud on the pitch so we represent the shirt with pride. No matter whether we win, lose or draw, we (should) give everything.

"I've been really proud the last week with the player's performances because it's almost like, 'I told you so'. There were people doubting when we were drawing games at homes but the process and the way we were working made me confident results would come.

"Now we have to make sure they keep coming."

Randell Williams joined Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee on Thursday and Rosenior revealed it was a question of "when, not if" former Middlesbrough striker Aaron Connolly joins on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. The Republic of Ireland international has trained with his new team-mates, and Hull hope he is registered in time to debut against the Cottagers.

Allahyar Sayyadmanesh's involvement will be decided by fitness tests on Friday.
