Mallik Wilks move is a 'win-win' for Barnsley FC and Hull City

BARNSLEY head coach Gerhard Struber believes that Mallik Wilks' full-time move to Yorkshire rivals Hull City is a 'win-win' scenario for both clubs.

Wilks' loan deal in East Yorkshire formally expired on Tuesday, although there was the long-standing option to make the move permanent by a June 30 deadline under the terms of the agreement which saw the former Leeds United player switch to the KCOM Stadium early in the New Year.

Hull were given a brief extension to rectify some outstanding issues and Wilks has now sealed his full-time switch to the Tigers.

The news will serve as a boost for Hull ahead of their big relegation six-pointer with Middlesbrough later today (kick-off 5pm Thursday), with Wilks available to play.

Wilks failed to feature under Struber and despite Barnsley allowing the 21-year-old to move to a direct relegation rival, the move will represent a good one for all parties concerned with the winger appearing to have little future at Oakwell.

Struber said: "I think everyone wins in this situation. It is a good one for the player and our club and I think Mallik is a player with very good skills in the offense and he has a good ability in this direction.

"But in my style, the most important thing is we have a mentality to work together and I think this was the biggest gap in the situation with my style and Mallik's style.

"Right now, it is the best situation with everyone and a very good solution for him.

"I have no exact information, but I think he can play the last games for Hull."

Wilks - who enjoyed a rewarding season on loan under Hull chief Grant McCann at Doncaster Rovers last term - only moved to Barnsley last summer from Leeds, with the Reds beating the Tigers to his signature.

He featured 16 times for Barnsley with his final appearance coming in the 4-2 home loss to Stoke on November 9 - with his only goal arriving in the 3-1 defeat to Luton on August 24.

Wilks switched to Hull in January and has made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times.
