MATCH CENTRE Sheffield United 0 Barnsley 0: Blades will not give up promotion race - Ellis

Barnsley and Sheffield United shared the points in a goalless South Yorkshire derby at Bramall Lane in the Championship.

Captain Chris Morgan overcome a calf strain and started in the centre of defence against his former club.

Kevin Blackwell made four changes with Jamie Ward, Jordan Stewart and Glen Little returning. Out went Andy Taylor, Kyle Bartley, Mark Yeates and James Harper.

Former Blade Andy Gray plays for Barnsley but Mark Robins named just six substitute due to an injury crisis at Oakwell.

Richard Cresswell's header at the back post was finger-tipped over by Luke Steele after eight minutes, while the Barnsley goalkeeper had to be alert to thwart Jamie Ward in a bright opening for the hosts.

Cresswell then had Blades fans on their feet but he glanced his header wide, before full-back Jordan Stewart was stretchered off in the first half to be replaced by Andy Taylor.

And five minutes before the interval, Jamie Ward limped off after pulling up with what looked like a hamstring problem. Yeates came on to replace him.

United nearly broke the deadlock but neither Stephen Quinn, Darius Henderson and Little could apply the finishing touch.

On-loan full-back Paul Connolly was given a second yellow card in the final minute of the game.

"We never give up. We're not quitters," said Blades No 2 Sam Ellis.

"That's not the way we do things here and it never will be.

"The lads are disappointed, of course they are, because I thought that we were always in control of the game. But we just couldn't get the break through we needed."

Barnsley manager Mark Robins said: "I'm delighted with the point.

"You could see our legs were going a bit at the end but we battled really hard and dug-in when we had to."
