MATCH CENTRE Stoke City 2 Hull City 0: Tigers suffer on their travels

HULL City's battle against relegation suffered a setback this afternoon as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Stoke City.

Liam Lawrence struck in the 89th minute to double the lead provided by Ricardo Fuller after just six minutes.

To make matters worse for Hull, captain George Boateng was rushed to hospital after being stretchered off with a head injury.

The midfielder was caught in the face as Stoke substitute Tuncay attempted an overhead kick and fell heavily to the floor.

Hull's afternoon got off to a bad start when Steven Mouyokolo was beaten in the air by Dave Kitson and the flick appeared to wrong foot Hull defender Paul McShane allowing Fuller to pull away and score.

Hull's performance improved after the break but they were reduced to ten men by Boateng's injury as all three substitutes had been used by manager Iain Dowie.

Lawrence wrapped things up a minute from the end after good work by Matthew Etherington.

On Boateng's injury, Tigers boss Iain Dowie said: "It is a hell of a whack.

"It is a nasty injury but hopefully he is fine and there is nothing wrong with his jaw because that would be a real blow.

"We've had some curveballs thrown at us already but we've got to get on with it."
