Matt Taylor and Wayne Carlisle handed time to pause for breath at Rotherham United

IN MANY respects, the real work starts now for Matt Taylor and Wayne Carlisle at Rotherham United.

A hectic last week saw the pair confirmed as the Millers' new management team with confirmation delayed due to contractual issues between the club and Exeter City.

After his opening press conference on Tuesday, Taylor took charge of his first match the following night, with focus then on recovery and preparations for his maiden game on the road at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Barely able to pause for breath, a clear preparation week ahead of Saturday's home derby with Huddersfield Town will be gratefully received by the pair.

The time will enable Carlisle, a hands-on coach, to transmit his ideas across in particular and for him and Taylor to really start ingratiating themselves and establishing relationships with the Rotherham players and letting them know what they are truly about.

As for who is the 'good cop' and 'bad cop' in their managerial partnership when it comes to dealing with players, boss Taylor commented: "You will probably have to ask the players.

"We have been conscious of not doing too much and the first couple of days were assessing where people were at going into Wednesday.

"It was great to see them live and perform, but unfortunately it was a case of seeing how they recovered going into the Blackburn game.

"We are looking forward to the week as Wayne, with his coaching capacity, will get more time with the players and we will get our ideas across a little bit more.

"We are only here to help these players and facilitate them and we are here to give them their best opportunity and chance of performing at their maximum level.

"That is all you can ask for in terms of a manager and coaching group as well. We are here to serve the players and we will continue to do that."

Rotherham head into Saturday’s game on the back of a four-match winless Championship sequence, having taken just two points from the last 12 available.

They face a Huddersfield side who have not won away from home since April 30.
