Matt Taylor gives Hull City credit as Rotherham United made to look second best on their own patch

Matt Taylor rightly said his Rotherham United side were leggy, error-strewn and low on confidence as they failed to win a third Championship game in a row but he put a lot of that down to Hull City.

The Tigers came away from the New York Stadium with a 4-2 win after a scintillating attacking display their hosts could not match.

"We were second best from start to finish," admitted Taylor. "We couldn't cover the areas of the pitch well enough. When we were close to the ball it never came out on a fair.

"I think that's a fair enough reflection of the game from start to finish. It went into some really poor parts of execution when we did have the ball, uncharacteristically kicking the ball out of play, misplaced passes, we lost a little bit of direction as a team.

"But full credit to the opposition, they've turned us into that.

"We looked a bit leggy, which is a surprise because they were the team that played Wednesday as opposed to Tuesday (as Rotherham did) but we can understand the efforts they put in on Tuesday.

"It's still a positive week for this club but it doesn't feel like that right now.

"We couldn't cover the space. The disconnect between our middle and the backline was apparent. That puts pressure on and unfortunately we turned into a poor in-possession team.

"We had no control and I was on the touchline searching for control.

"We have to understand where we are in the league and give the opposition credit. We're not going to win every game of football. Before this game I would have snapped your hand off for a point."

Taylor confirmed that midfielder Ollie Rathbone and Ben Wiles both came off with muscle problems, and that his former Exeter City coach Jonathan Hill will be joining the Millers on Monday.
