Boro expect physical match from visitors

The former Boro midfielder has orchestrated a strong start for the Seasiders who have won both their opening matches.

And in describing the way Blackpool play, Boro boss Tony Mowbray gave a nod to the up-and-at-em attitude that typified Ince on the field.

“They’re a lot different to Ian Holloway’s side,” began Mowbray. “They have long throws from both sides and put the ball into your box.

“But it’s a challenge we’re looking forward to. We have to get back to winning ways at home. We are a good side and have some good players.

“If we are to dominate games in this league we have to put teams away. It took 70-odd minutes to do that at Charlton and we have to be a more clinical when the chances come along.”

To continue that, Mowbray wants his players to play with width as they look to build on that impressive victory at the Valley last Saturday. “We’ve got two wingers now. I have built my managerial career on open, attacking, expansive teams,” said Mowbray.

“We’ve worked with the group of players we inherited and tried to move it on bit by bit and it’s been a slow process.

“We’ve had a chance to get in some of the players we like and let’s hope we get some more additions to the squad in the next week or two. Then hopefully we’ll have a team the supporters will see can attack, create chances and score goals.

“We have to keep believing that we are a good side, with good players, who can dominate games. But we must be more clinical in putting sides to bed.”

Mowbray yesterday strengthened his side by signing experienced Greek goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos, 34, on a deal until January.

Mowbray also hinted that he was still keen to lure Ross McCormack from Leeds, after seeing two bids for the striker knocked back.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with Leeds manager Brian McDermott,” he said. “If it can be worked out then great. If not we have other options.”
