Milner full of ambition

James Milner will not settle for second best at Manchester City after finally sealing his protracted move from Aston Villa.

Former Leeds United midfielder Milner, 24, wants nothing less than the Premier League title after moving to Eastlands.

Milner, who joins in a deal that takes Stephen Ireland to Villa Park, said: "It didn't take too much selling by the boss (Roberto Mancini) when you see the players who are already here and the plans for the club.

"Winning the Premier League is my ultimate aim – that's what I want to do and why I'm here.

"I'm ambitious and I want to win trophies here. I believe this is a great place to do that and I believe we will do it."

Ireland joins Villa as they prepare for tonight's Europa League play-off round first leg against Rapid Vienna in Austria.

Liverpool are also in action tonight, welcoming Trabzonspor to Anfield.

Manager Roy Hodgson yesterday completed the 2.3m signing of goalkeeper Brad Jones from Middlesbrough. Jones, who agreed terms and passed a medical earlier this week, has signed a three-year contract.
