Moore and Bogdanovic on way out at Barnsley

BARNSLEY manager Mark Robins yesterday released six players in the first part of a summer shake-up at Oakwell

Defenders Darren Moore and Rob Kozluk, midfield player Anderson de Silva and striker Jon Macken headed the list of casualties along with younger players Michael Coulson and Simon Heslop.

The Tykes also confirmed that striker Daniel Bogdanovic will be leaving after rejecting a new deal but Argentinian midfielder Hugo Colace has been given another week to decide whether he wants to stay.

Moore's departure is, arguably, the biggest surprise as the former Bradford City and Derby County defender, 36, had been a regular in the side this season.

Former Sheffield United fullback Kozluk and striker Macken have struggled to hold down places and Brazilian midfielder Anderson fell out of favour towards the end of the campaign.

Colace, 26, is Barnsley's Player of the Year and has made a big impression at Oakwell since arriving in English football two summers ago.

However, Bogdanovic's failure to accept the club's contract offer is a setback as the Maltese international is a crowd favourite who has scored 19 goals in 36 starts since moving from Lokomotiv Sofia in January 2009.

COACHES Colin Cooper, Stephen Pears and Martin Scott have left Middlesbrough as manager Gordon Strachan rebuilds his backroom team.

Cooper, who made over 400 appearances for Boro, worked as assistant manager to former chief Gareth Southgate before taking over as caretaker prior to Strachan's arrival.

But Strachan is making changes to his coaching staff ready for next season meaning Cooper, goalkeeping coach Pears and reserves coach Scott are surplus to requirements.

PRESTON manager Darren Ferguson is confident of bringing Manchester United duo Danny Welbeck and Matt James back to Deepdale on loan again next term.

Ferguson said: "Matty James is done and dusted and Danny is having a think about it – there have been conversations taking place."

Ferguson has placed Neil Mellor, Richard Chaplow, Michael Hart, Liam Chilvers, Darren Carter and Chris Sedgwick on the transfer list.
