Middlesbrough are chasing former Leeds United striker Ross McCormack after their move for Jordan Rhodes collapsed spectacularly on Sunday night.

According to the Northern Echo, the Fulham forward could make a move to the Riverside Stadium before Monday night’s deadline.

McCormack was reported to be on the cusp of agreeing a new deal with the relegation-threatened London side, but it now looks as though his future could be elsewhere.

A £9 million move is being mooted.

Leeds are likely to be pipped to the signing of Aiden McGeady by Sheffield Wednesday, who stole a march on their Yorkshire rivals over the weekend.

McGeady has been given permission to join a Championship side by Everton manager Roberto Martinez.

Rotherham United are looking to get rid of a handful of players on Monday, with Neil Redfearn believing that his squad is too large.

However, Redfearn is also keen to recruit central midfielders, according to the Sheffield Star, as he believes that area of his squad could still do with some strengthening.

“There will perhaps be some departures,” he said.

“I think the problem we have got is that we have not got strength in depth in those two central-midfield roles, so that is something we might have to look at.”

“We have got Richie (Smallwood) and Greeny (Paul Green) in there, but if we want to change it around or if we get an injury we are a little bit light.”
