O'Driscoll shuffles the pack after Doncaster Rovers' fine season

DONCASTER Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is hoping that his out-of-contract stars will stay at the Keepmoat Stadium this summer.

O'Driscoll is desperate to hold onto those who have helped Rovers secure a highest league position for over 50 years and has offered new deals to goalkeeper Neil Sullivan, defenders Gareth Roberts and Adam Lockwood, midfielders Mark Wilson and John Oster, striker James Hayter along with fringe players Waide Fairhurst, Robbie Clark, Mustapha Dumbuya, and Gary Woods.

However, O'Driscoll has released strikers Paul Heffernan and Lewis Guy, defenders Sean McDaid and Charles Fisher, midfielder John Spicer and goalkeeper Ben Smith.

Heffernan has spent five years with the club and was leading marksman in 2007 and 2009 but is now likely to join Bristol Rovers where he enjoyed a loan spell this season.

Former Newcastle United youngster Guy was signed six years ago but spent time this season on loan with former Rovers manager Dave Penney at Oldham Athletic.

Defender McDaid, who started his career at Leeds United, has managed just one first-team appearance in the last two years due to a serious knee injury. Fisher has been unable to make the step up to the first team and was on loan this season with Brigg Town and Frickley Athletic.

Midfielder Spicer, 26, joined Rovers from Burnley two summers ago but finished this season on loan at Leyton Orient.

Goalkeeper Smith, 23, has spent the last four seasons providing cover for Sullivan but Rovers have decided to try and keep third choice Woods instead.
