Redknapp happy with his lot as Spurs eye Champions League

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp insists there will be no wholesale changes at White Hart Lane this summer.

Redknapp's side took another step towards Champions League qualification with a 1-0 victory over Bolton on Saturday.

A win over Manchester City on Wednesday would guarantee the club the first Champions League appearance in their history.

Spurs' relative wealth has meant their managers have not been short of funds and key signings such as Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Wilson Palacios have played an integral part in their push for fourth.

Redknapp is likely to be in a similar position this summer but, having also galvanised the careers of David Bentley, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Heurelho Gomes and seen the likes of Michael Dawson and Ledley King find arguably the best form of their careers, he insists he is happy with his current squad and is backing his team to be even stronger next year.

Redknapp said: "I'm not too bothered about changing things in the summer.

"If (injured defender Jonathan) Woodgate came back fit then we'll have four fantastic centre-halves.

"There are lots of good players here. Next year we'll be better. Gareth Bale will have had a full season behind him and Aaron Lennon will be back. The future is good."

Redknapp insists his players will not buckle under pressure when they lock horns with City on Wednesday.

Spurs looked nervy in the second half of Saturday's game after going ahead through Tom Huddlestone's 22-yard thunderbolt.

They are also facing a selection crisis in goal after No 1 Heurelho Gomes went to hospital to have a scan on a groin injury he picked up in the final minutes.

Redknapp will not apply for an emergency loan if Gomes is forced to miss the rest of the campaign.

The goalkeeper, who has been instrumental in the club's quest to gain Champions League football this year, is now a doubt for Wednesday's match against Manchester City at Eastlands.

Fellow Champions League chasers City brought in Sunderland reserve goalkeeper Marton Fulop last week after Shay Given dislocated a shoulder.

Should Gomes not be fit for the remainder of the campaign, Redknapp will be forced to field England Under-21 goalkeeper Ben Alnwick or veteran Jimmy Walker, neither of whom have played for Spurs this year.

Redknapp admits losing Gomes would be a blow, but he insists that he will not enter the loan market should the 29-year-old be unable to recover for Spurs' remaining two games.

"Gomes's groin is sore. He'll have a scan and see what the damage is. Hopefully he'll be okay," said Redknapp.
