Reece James thinks Doncaster Rovers would be in League One's top four if they could just cut out the little mistakes.

Darren Moore's side are currently 11th, although it is a deceptive position because they have one or two games in hand on all but two of the teams above.

They have shown their ability to defeat the best, defeating Ipswich Town and Lincoln City when they were top of the table, but a young squad has not quite had the consistency to be amongst the promotion front-runners just yet.

“It's been a good start but we still want to do better than we have,” said James, the left-back who has shown his versatility this season. “We've been unlucky in certain games where I feel we've done enough to win the game or at least get a draw and if we'd got those results we'd be sat in a lot healthier position, within the top four.

“It's just sorting out those little mistakes, staying together as a team and knowing we can get those results.

“You look at the squad we've got and on paper it's one of the strongest in the league. We've got players that have been there and done it, I don't see why we can't push for that this season.”

Doncaster entertain Blackpool, who have recovered from a poor start to record five consecutive wins, in Tuesday's League One game and James admitted he had to rein himself during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sunderland to make sure he played, having gone into the game on four cautions, one away from a one-match suspension.

“I think you've just got to put it aside a little bit,” he said. There was a time in the game against Sunderland where I came across Maguire and pulled out a little bit because we've got big games coming up, including the one on Tuesday night.

“You've go to know when to and when not to (commit).

“But you've got to put it to the back of your mind. If there's a challenge that needs to be made, I'll make it, but where I possibly can I will hold back so as not to miss a game.

“Blackpool have been on a really good run lately. The gaffer's told us all about it.

“You've got to respect your opponents but at the same time we've got to think about how we can affect the game. We're a good team and we've got to make sure they think about us as much as we think about them.

“I think it'll be a good test and a good game.”

Moore has an unchanged squad to choose from but Taylor Richards is an option to start if he wants to freshen up the team.
