Rhodes plunders five more goals as Town tear Wycombe to pieces

GOAL machine Jordan Rhodes netted five times as Huddersfield destroyed struggling Wycombe Wanderers 6-0 last night.

He took his record to an incredible 12 goals in his last five matches for the visitors as the Terriers ripped their hosts apart in front of the TV cameras at Adams Park.

It was Oscar Gobern – one of four new faces drafted in by manager Lee Clark – who opened the floodgates when he nodded in from a corner, just after home goalkeeper Nikki Bull made a superb save to deny Lee Novak.

Then Scotland international Rhodes took centre stage, emphatically firing home Jack Hunt’s cross into the roof of the net as he got his personal tally up and running.

For his second he took a lofted pass in his stride and coolly slotted home after fending off the attentions of hapless Wanderers full-back Grant Basey.

Novak then had a shot blocked, Rhodes had a shot cleared off the line and Bull made a great stop from Gary Roberts’s curler before half-time.

After the ball was defelcted into his path, Rhodes completed his hat-trick when he fired home at the second attempt after Bull had saved his initial effort,

The lethal Scottish international then finished off Danny Ward’s pass to match the four-goal haul he managed against Sheffield Wednesday before going one better when he thumped home his fifth from another Ward cross.
