The forward, signed on loan for the rest of the season from Huddersfield Town in January, is yet to start a game for the Millers, but his presence and versatility is being duly noted by Warne.

On Koroma, whose four appearances for the club have all arrived from the bench, Warne said: “He just needs to keep doing what he has been doing in training. He is really a striker in a free role and I put him on the wing (last weekend).

“If the game had gone more comfortably, I would have possibly taken one of the strikers off and played him up front, which he deserves.

“He is a great kid and I explained to him when he came here he would be fighting for a place and he is. But, in fairness, the lads in front of him are playing really well and it is no different to any of my players on or off the bench. They are not doing anything wrong.”

Pleased with the Millers’ recent efforts he may be, but Warne has tacitly acknowledged that his side, who have drawn three of their past four games, have to think outside of the box a bit more in the final third and produce different ways of scoring.

That could be interpreted as a hint at extended involvement for former Leyton Orient player Koroma at Spotland today.

The Millers chief continued: “I think we have to be a bit cleverer.

“We have had a chat about it this week that we need to find another way to score because, as good as we are in getting the ball out wide and crossing it, sometimes you are banging against a locked door.

“So either we have to get better movement off our strikers or get another midfielder in the box or find a different way to score.

“That has really been our issue this week.”

The second-placed Millers will be backed by close to 2,000 supporters today at the Red Rose venue.

Rotherham have won three of their last four games at Spotland and their historical record there is a strong one, with eight wins in their past 14 visits stretching back to the early Seventies.
