The Doncaster-born frontman, 23, was down the pecking order at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, with Blackpool and newly-promoted League Two champions Swindon Town battling it out for his services, while other League One clubs also expressed interest.

Yates, who came through the youth ranks at Rotherham, enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Swindon last term - where he scored 14 goals - with the Wiltshire outfit having been keen to bring him to the club on a permanent basis and making their interest publicly known.

But Blackpool have won the race for his services, shelving out a six-figure fee to bring the player to Lancashire.

The Seasiders reportedly had an initial offer for Yates rejected earlier this month, but they have now secured his signature at the second time of asking.

Yates has signed a three-year deal at Bloomfield Road.

On his move, he said: “I am buzzing to get this over the line and sign for Blackpool.

“I have known about the interest for a while now, so to finally be here is a great feeling. This is an exciting club with a huge fanbase and a big vision for the future.

“I am ready and waiting to help the club succeed and I cannot wait for what is to come.”

Yates struggled to make a first-team impact during his time with the Millers.
