Evans: I’ll still be first man into work and last out

The Glaswegian, fresh from orchestrating back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship for the Millers, has sealed a dream week for the club by signing an improved contract.

Evans’s stock has never been higher after emulating Ronnie Moore in clinching successive promotions for United, but he insists that complacency is not an option.

The Scot is steadfastly refusing to bask in the glow of helping the Millers return to the second tier for the first time since 2004-05 and has already turned his sights to next term.

Evans went on a scouting mission watching Scotland Under-21s on Wednesday night, with 
St Johnstone striker and long-time target Stevie May believed to be the man under the microscope, and is already immersing himself with shaping his squad for the start of the new season in August.

Evans, whose assistant Paul Raynor has also signed a new contract, said: “It was an easy decision to sign; the terms of the contract were quite literally decided in just two minutes. It was that easy.

“Now I have signed this deal nothing will change in terms of my approach. I will still be the first into the club and the last out – the hard work must continue.

“The amount of success we’ve had as a management team has come from a strong work ethic and it gives me great pleasure to confirm that Paul will be staying alongside me as well.”

Utility man Mark Bradley has agreed a new deal and Evans is confident that Wes Morgan and Kari Arnason will follow suit after being offered fresh terms.

The Millers will travel to near-neighbours Doncaster Rovers for a pre-season friendly on August 2 (3pm).

York City have completed the signing of Tranmere Rovers goalkeeper Jason Mooney on a two-year deal.

The 6ft 9ins goalkeeper played four games for the Wirral outfit, including their final-day home encounter with Bradford City.
