Exiled Evans angry at Revell’s dismissal

Steve Evans believes the ‘harsh’ sending off of Rotherham striker Alex Revell prevented the Millers the chance to take all three points at Underhill.

The pre-season promotion favourites were unable to break down the division’s bottom club who recorded only their second point of the season with the draw.

Evans, who reviewed the dvd after the game as he continues to serve his six-game stadium ban continues, was angered by the decision to award Revell a straight red card for a sliding challenge which caught Barnet defender David Stephens.

“Until the harsh sending off of Alex Revell we were by far the better team,” said Evans, who travelled with the team down to north London and oversaw a team meeting at their pre-match hotel.

“The sending off should have brought nothing more than a yellow card but it was a day that was full of strange decisions.

“The management team will again review the challenge made by Revs but to be successful we all have to be 100 per cent certain that the referee got the decision wrong to the point where the challenge was not even worthy of a yellow card and that is where the problem may be.”

Revell had earlier gone closest for Rotherham, who found goalkeeper Graham Stack in defiant mood. Kayode Odejayi also went close. Barnet had chances through Jake Hyde and Ricky Holmes but Scott Shearer in the Millers’ goal would not be beaten.

Evans said: “It would have been easy for the 10 players left on the pitch to have surrendered and got beaten but again it was us who tried to win the match, indeed, young Kieran Agard had a great opportunity to do that for us.

“A point away from home should always be recognised as a solid afternoon but it does not feel like that. That is because we did not take care of the home match against Rochdale in midweek.”
