(1-1 aet, Hull win 7-6 on penalties)

There were two divisions between these sides the last time they met. Steve Bruce was newly-appointed at the KC Stadium and his Hull side were desperate for a return to the Premier League, while Rotherham were keen to get out of League Two after five years in the fourth tier.

Both would go on to finish second in their respective divisions.

Rotherham came close to an upset after a stunning strike from Lionel Ainsworth smashed in off the underside of the crossbar.

The last time these two met in the league was down in the old Division 3, or League Two as it now known.

Rotherham would once again go on to finish second in the division and secure promotion out of the fourth tier, whereas Hull City ended the season fourteenth. All three goals for the Millers came in the last 15 minutes, with Brian Wilsterman, Paul Warne, and top-scorer Leo Fortune-West all hitting the back of the net for the promotion-pushing side.

Lee Glover etched his name into Rotherham folklore on a festive afternoon at Millmoor, scoring four times against the Tigers in a thrilling 5-4 win.

Rotherham rushed into a 5-1 lead with Scott Taylor scoring the second between Glover’s strikes, but then had to fight off a late surge from City.

Glyn Hodges and Duane Darby both got braces that day, but remained on the losing side as Rotherham held on for a nail-biting final 10 minutes.

The last time the Tigers travelled to Rotherham and won was over 22 years ago.

Hull City describe the 1993-94 season as their most successful of the decade, as Terry Dolan’s side orbited around the play-offs throughout the season before finishing ninth.

A young Dean Windass was really beginning to flourish too in his third season with the Tigers, finishing the term with 24 goals.

Rotherham finished the season in 16th after a difficult campaign.
