Millers rebuffed by quartet of clubs on deadline day

The Millers failed to add to their winter window business in the final hours of deadline day, but not for the want of trying, according to Evans.

The Millers chief remains happy with the signings he previously made, having snapped up loan pair Zeki Fryers and Jack Hunt from Crystal Palace, Derby County striker Conor Sammon and Huddersfield duo Adam Hammill and Danny Ward.

Meanwhile, Jack Barmby has returned to Leicester City after his one-month loan spell.

Evans, whose side are seeking to extend their unbeaten streak to three matches tomorrow at home to Ipswich, says that he spoke to three Championship clubs about potential deals on Monday.

One was Middlesbrough, with Evans having been keen to re-sign Emmanuel Ledesma, but an agreement could not be reached.

Another club that the Millers spoke to St Mirren, with the club strongly linked with a move for Buddies midfielder Kenny McLean, but he moved to Aberdeen on deadline-day.

Evans said: “Did we want to do some business on transfer deadline day? Of course we did. But Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, St Mirren and Wolves wouldn’t do business. And that’s always their right.”

“We’ve got a talented group here and anyone with any knowledge of football will know we are significantly stronger (than when the window opened).”

Meanwhile, Evans says that he is contemplating whether to extend Fryers’ one month loan, with the ex-Manchester United player improving with every game, according to the Scot.

On Fryers, whose initial month is scheduled to end on February 14, Evans added: “Zeki is getting better with every game and we want that improvement to continue in the next few matches.

“He’s keen to stay and Crystal Palace are keen for him to stay so it’s now down to what we decide.”
