This demolition of the League One strugglers was their biggest win at the New York Stadium and extended their unbeaten run to nine games, seven of which have been wins.

County actually enjoyed the better of the play in the first 15 minutes before a burst of four goals in the next quarter of an hour ended the game as a contest.

James Tavernier scored driect from a free-kick before Haris Vuckic, Alex Revell and Kieran Agard from the penalty spot put the game out of reach. After that, the Millers cantered to victory.

“We weren’t happy with the first 15 minutes in which we looked like we were a bit tired from our exerts at Preston, and Notts County were perhaps on the front foot,” said Evans.

“They’ve got some talented players like we’ve always said, but James Tavernier practices free-kicks to the point that I’ve boarded up my windows at the training ground. He’s put it in the top bag and we’ve never really looked back from there.

“We said if we could get on the front foot that the first goal would be all important and once we got that goal we stepped it up and we’ve had as good an afternoon as you could have hoped for.

“We could have had double figures today with some of the super play and chances we’ve had but I think the goalkeeper can take great credit for his performance because I can certainly recall two or three great saves.”

Vuckic added his second before Tom Hitchcock sealed the win.
