Notts County v Rotherham United: Evans looks to profit from County’s record

NOTTS COUNTY may boast the longest unbeaten away record in the Football League but at Meadow Lane it has been far from a case of the League One club enjoying home comforts.

Last Saturday’s defeat to Brentford was the seventh time that the Magpies have been beaten on home soil in league and cup competitions this term, a record that contrasts sharply with the club’s record on the road – it is 21 matches since the Magpies last suffered defeat on their travels.

That fine away record includes a 1-1 draw at the New York Stadium at the start of the month to set up tonight’s delayed FA Cup second round replay, during which Rotherham manager Steve Evans is hoping to pile on the pressure for County.

He said: “We hope we can extend the difficulties Notts have had at times at home and the pressure and expectation is on them. It would be a fantastic achievement.”

Ian Sharps will be missing for the Millers tonight after collecting a fifth booking of the season in the weekend win at AFC Wimbledon.

As a result, Jonny Mullins is expected to switch into the centre of defence as Mark Bradley returns at right-back.

Evans must also find a replacement for on-loan Liam Ridehalgh, who has been denied permission to play by parent club Huddersfield to prevent the full-back becoming Cup-tied.

The Millers’ manager is also likely to be without Scott Shearer after the goalkeeper picked up an elbow injury in training.

A trip to Aldershot Town awaits the winners of tonight’s replay, which fell victim to the Arctic weather a week ago.
