Rotherham United: Evans warns Millers to be ready for battle

Northampton Town narrowly avoided relegation from the Football League last season but Rotherham manager Steve Evans has no intention of taking them lightly.

The ambitious Millers underlined their billing as pre-season promotion favourites with a comfortable win on the club’s grand return to the town last Saturday.

But Evans, who still feels he is two men short of a full squad in spite of having brought in 11 players already, is not expecting to waltz back up the M1 tonight with three points.

“It will be as hard a fixture as we will face at any time this season,” said Evans.

Northampton Town have a certain style of play but I expect my players to stand up to the physical battle we will get.

“This is one opposition I expect to challenge for promotion as they have a number of top-class players for the level we play.

“Hopefully, our supporters will travel in good numbers and if they can give us the same fantastic vocal backing that they gave us at Hull City that will be greatly appreciated by every player who on the night wears a Millers shirt.”

On the players he still wants to bring in, Evans stipulates that they must be affordable and add extra quality.

Evans also revealed that Johnny Mullins is expected to be fit for tonight’s game after being substituted against Burton following a heavy challenge.

Evans said: “We are grateful that it isn’t a nasty one because at one stage we thought he might have tweaked his ligaments in his knee, but thankfully it seems to be a lot less than that.”
