Rotherham United set for welcome boost from Derbyshire and Frecklington

Matt Derbyshire and Lee Frecklington are set to give Rotherham United a timely boost as the Millers look to halt a six-match winless streak.

The duo have been sorely missed in recent games, but Derbyshire (ankle) and captain Frecklington (calf) are in contention to face Championship rivals Ipswich Town tomorrow at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The Millers have lost five and drawn one of their last six outings and new boss Neil Redfearn is still seeking his first win in charge.

“Matt has got a chance and I’m pleased about that,” said Redfearn of last season’s top scorer who missed games against Derby County and Middlesbrough.

“He’s had an injection which will hopefully settle his knee down a little bit and taken some pressure off his ankle. He was out jogging (yesterday) and he’s had no side effects and his ankle has started freeing up which is good news. He’ll train (today) and we’ll see how he goes.”

Frecklington returned to training on Monday and brings much-needed competition for places.

“He’s trained but he’s been out for a bit so he’s going to need a bit of a chance to get his match fitness back but he looked sharp this morning,” added Redfearn.

“He worked hard and closed down and he’s another one that will offer competition for places.”

Victory tomorrow over 10th-placed Ipswich could lift the Millers off the foot of the Championship table. Mick McCarthy’s team had not won for eight games before their 2-0 victory over Bolton in midweek.

But Redfearn stressed: “We’ve got to look at it like we can go and get points out of it and I think we can.”
