Centre-back Troy Brown was away on international duty with the Welsh under-21 squad.

But it was new signing Revell who opened the scoring after 20 minutes, heading home after Swindon failed to clear the danger.

Swindon equalised when the impressive Matt Ritchie ghosted in at the far post and his side-footed effort was deflected in.

Then came a crazy five minutes which saw two goals and a red card,

First, Revell restored the visitors’ advantage only to see Danny Schofield sent off for two bookings. Then, substitute Alan Connell pounced at the far post to head home an equaliser.

And the numerical advantage proved decisive for Swindon who took the lead with 10 minutes remaining, as Connell got in between two defenders to head home.

Swindon were reduced to 10 men late on when Albert Comazzi was shown a second yellow card following an innocent-looking challenge.

Rotherham United will entertain Sheffield United in the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
