Video: Let’s not beat ourselves up, says Millers’ Skarz

ROTHERHAM UNITED defender Joe Skarz insists the Millers should not beat themselves up too much following their last-gasp concession in Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Fulham.

The Millers agonisingly just failed to make it a hat-trick of successes against former Premier League sides, having previously beaten Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers amid much fanfare.

Despite having to settle for one point against the Cottagers, having led three times, Skarz says that the club’s glass is very much half full heading into tomorrow’s trip to Brighton, with the Millers in a decent-looking 14th place - although it could and perhaps should have been higher.

He said: “There was not massive disappointment with the Fulham game on Tuesday, but it was disappointing to concede three equalisers and one so late in the game.

“It’s a relentless league and looking at Fulham, they had an £11m striker (Ross McCormack) and they had a lot of quality on show.

“But four unbeaten with two wins and two draws is looking positive and we are just looking forward to the weekend.”

Skarz has emerged as one of the mainstays of the Millers line-up and has impressed with some solid displays so far this term and has taken to the surroundings of the Championship well.

Despite receiving plaudits for his own recent performances from fans, the former Huddersfield Town defender is remaining grounded and is just hoping that his hard graft on matchdays and in training continues to yield personal reward.

He said: “Obviously, it’s nice (receiving plaudits). But you know what football is like, one week people are saying that and the next week, they can be wanting you out of the team.

“You have always got to stay level and grounded and take the highs with the lows and keep coming into the training every day working hard and that is what I am doing.”
