The former Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton centre-half has been in impressive form for the Red Devils, with Evans to bring him back to boost his defensive options.

The Millers will also assess the future of Jonson-Clarke Harris, currently on loan at Doncaster, after this weekend’s action.

Evans, whose side visit Middlesbrough on Saturday, said: “We are recalling Richard Wood from Crawley later today.

“The basis of that is that the best way I can put this across is that I met with the chairman yesterday and he said: ‘I would rather have too many golf clubs than not enough.’

“So we are bringing Richard back. He’s an experienced professional and in his 10 or 11 games at Crawley, he’s simply been their best player.”

And on Clarke-Harris, he added: “We will look at Jonson and also Scott (Loach) and we will look at them and see if we want to add them back to what we have got. The chances are we will.

“We are not going to make any decision before the weekend. And certainly if we were going to do that, the first conversation we’d have is with Paul Dickov (regarding Clarke-Harris).

“We will have a look at it after Middlesbrough. We noticed he didn’t play the other night and he came off the bench and we think he should be playing.

“It might be a case of wanting to bring him back in house.”

Frazer Richardson is set to miss the rest of the season.
