ROTHERHAM UNITED'S players have been put under the microscope this week by their manager, but Alan Stubbs admits that the performance analysis extends even further '“ to himself.

The Millers’ chief is the first to acknowledge that his managerial baptism in the Championship has not yielded a plethora of high marks so far.

Just like with his work-in-progress side, Stubbs accepts that he has room for improvement.

But he is confident that time will bring about an improvement, and a positive result and display against Cardiff would represent a good start.

Stubbs said: “I would always mark myself down because I always feel I can do better. The day I get to an A-plus, I have cracked it. But I am not close to that yet. I know I am not.

“I have been in management just over two years and I have had a bit of success in that short time. All that does is make you want it even more.

“I knew this was going to be a big challenge when I came here, but not for one minute did it ever put me off.”

Remedying the Millers’ defensive frailties and getting back to basics has been the theme in training this week, with a meeting held to redress that glaring Achilles heel at the start of the working week after the painful 4-2 weekend loss at Blackburn.

Video anaylsis pinpointing where the Millers are collectively letting themselves down defensively was provided, with players made aware in no uncertain terms of where their deficiencies currently lie.

Stubbs added: “It has to be taken on board. Players do not like to keep making mistakes and that is why you have to go through it visually.

“You go through the sequence of events, how it has got there.

“I analyse myself to see if there was anything I did right or wrong during the game and players have to do the same.

“If they have done something (wrong), we will be there to help them.

“But, ultimately, they have to do it themselves as well.”
