The Terriers have slipped to fifth bottom in the Championship on the back of this disappointing run.

And with Rotherham having leapfrogged over Huddersfield last weekend, Scannell admits there would be no better place to return to the winning trail than at the New York Stadium.

The London-born winger said: “We have to start again now and go to Rotherham, get the win and start moving back up the table again. It is a massive game and we have to kick-start things again.

“This (Christmas) is a massive chance to get six points. We have got Rotherham and Bolton at home.

“And for me that is a definite chance.

“If we go to Rotherham and get three points and then take three points at home to Bolton, which is ‘doable’, we will be back on track.

“That is all it takes, really.”

Murray Wallace returns to the squad after serving a one-game ban for his dismissal at Norwich City on December 13.

Chris Powell, meanwhile, is expected to once again adopt the lone frontman formation that has characterised most of Town’s road trips since his arrival in mid-September.

Grant Holt, who is being recalled by parent club Wigan Athletic after the Bolton game, is expected to lead the attack, which means Nahki Wells and James Vaughan are likely to be on the bench for the second successive game.

On Town’s attacking options, Scannell, who will drop back into midfield along with Harry Bunn, said: “We have strikers who are capable of being the best in the league.”
