The Blades came close to a stunning start when Che Adams grazed the crossbar with goalkeeper Stuart Nelson beatem.

Nelson had to be alert to claw away a curled shot from Adams, as the Blades made a bright start to the match.

The Gills should have gone in front when Deji Oshilaja headed over from six yards out.

United thought they should have had a penalty when Ryan Flynn went down under the challenge of Nelson, but referee Rob Lewis waved away the appeals.

Matt Done headed over when well-placed at the back post, as United pushed for a goal in the second half.

Paul Coutts delivered some superb crosses all afternoon, the pick of them coming on 75 minutes which just evaded Sharp and Adams in the box.
