Sheffield United: No panic for Blades boss Wilder

The new United boss has yet to taste victory after an opening day defeat at Bolton Wanderers was followed by a surprise EFL Cup exit at Bramall Lane against League Two side Crewe on Tuesday night.

But Wilder - who succeeded Nigel Adkins in the summer - has a clear strategy in place, and will not panic after two defeats.

He was impressed with both opening 45 minutes, at both Bolton and against Crewe, but United were punished for not converting their chances

“We’re not really happy, no, because we are here to win games of football,” said Wilder.

“Things could easily have been different at the end of both games but they weren’t.

“I’m sure the win is around the corner so we’ll stick to the game plan. It’s just a finish here and a finish there.”

United open their league campaign at Bramall Lane on Saturday against Rochdale.

Wilder has no injury worries, despite Jack O’Connell picking up a knock in midweek.

“There were a couple of bumps and bruises,” said Wilder.

“Jack was hobbling about a bit towards the end which wasn’t ideal.

“Then there were lads who have played 30 minutes more than we’d planned.

“But players are fit and strong enough to get through another 30 minutes of football. We’ll just temper our training to cope with it.”
